Dopo le discussioni di ieri in Svizzera sul futuro della sicurezza europea, il capo negoziatore russo ha avvertito che le sue controparti nordamericane “sottovalutano la gravità della situazione”.
Mentre la delegazione statunitense è venuta a Ginevra per discussioni “serie” sulle proposte di sicurezza europee di Mosca, non è riuscita a mostrare la comprensione di come le questioni chiave debbano essere risolte, ha affermato il vice ministro degli Esteri Sergey Ryabkov.
La Russia ha messo tutte le sue carte in tavola nelle proposte rese pubbliche il mese scorso, ha insistito Ryabkov, e quelle rappresentano “richieste dalle quali non possiamo tirarci indietro”.
Il diplomatico russo ha definito i colloqui di Ginevra come utili perché hanno affrontato questioni precedentemente considerate fuori discussione, precisando di non ritenere che la situazione sia senza speranza. La più grande differenza di opinioni tra gli Stati Uniti e la Russia riguarda l’ulteriore espansione del blocco militare della NATO di Washington.
“Per noi, è assolutamente obbligatorio assicurarsi che l’Ucraina non diventi mai un membro della NATO”, ha ribadito Ryabkov.
“Siamo stufi di chiacchiere, mezze promesse, interpretazioni errate di ciò che è accaduto in diversi negoziati a porte chiuse”, ha spiegato, riferendosi alle affermazioni del Dipartimento di Stato degli ultimi giorni secondo cui la NATO e gli Stati Uniti non hanno mai promesso a Mosca che la NATO non si sarebbe ampliata verso est.
“Non ci fidiamo dell’altra parte”, ha detto Ryabkov. “È finita, basta”.
Dopo i colloqui di lunedì a Ginevra, Ryabkov incontrerà i rappresentanti della NATO mercoledì e l’OSCE il 13 gennaio, dopodiché Mosca deciderà se proseguire ulteriormente i negoziati.
