Alexey Navalny è stato arrestato dalla polizia all’aeroporto Sheremetyevo di Mosca dopo essere tornato dalla Germania. L’autorità carceraria russa ha confermato la detenzione. Navalny, che era ricercato per aver violato i termini della sua libertà vigilata da un precedente procedimento penale, rimarrà in custodia fino a quando il tribunale non si pronuncerà sulle restrizioni cautelari contro di lui.
Il 28 dicembre, il servizio penitenziario federale aveva convocato Navalny in relazione alla sua libertà vigilata a Mosca, dove avrebbe dovuto regolamente presenziare a causa dei termini della sua condanna. Tuttavia ciò non è avvenuto.
Il servizio penale ha insistito sul fatto che Navalny ha deliberatamente evitato la loro supervisione, poiché i documenti pubblicati dai medici tedeschi hanno rivelato che era idoneo a recarsi in Russia visto che i suoi problemi di salute erano rientrati.
