Mosca ha lanciato un ultimatum alla società proprietaria di YouTube, Google, affermando che il sito di streaming video potrebbe subire restrizioni, compreso un blocco totale in Russia, dopo aver eliminato due canali gestiti dal servizio in lingua tedesca di RT. Nella dichiarazione rilasciata mercoledì mattina il regolatore nazionale dei media del paese, Roskomnadzor, ha affermato che “chiede la revoca di tutte le restrizioni imposte ai canali YouTube RT DE e Der Fehlende Part (DFP) gestiti dal giornale RT prima possibile”. “Nel caso in cui il proprietario della piattaforma non rispetti l’avviso, la legislazione ci consente di adottare misure che arrivino fino al blocco totale o parziale dell’accesso a YouTube” ha concluso Roskomnadzor. Martedì, il ministero degli Esteri russo aveva criticato la decisione di rimuovere i due canali come “un atto di aggressione informativa senza precedenti” e una “evidente manifestazione di censura e soppressione della libertà di espressione”. Secondo i diplomatici, YouTube ha agito con “l’evidente connivenza, se non addirittura su pressione” delle autorità tedesche.

Sia RT DE che DFP sono stati rimossi all’inizio della giornata di martedì (28 settembre) senza alcuna possibilità di potersi appellare a tale decisione. YouTube si difende affermando di aver infranto le regole del servizio a causa di 4 video accusati di fare una non meglio precisata “disinformazione medica”. I dettagli della presunta violazione non sono ancora chiari ma il caporedattore di RT, Margarita Simonyan, ha affermato che si tratta di “una dichiarazione di guerra mediatica contro la Russia da parte della Germania”. Il ministero degli Esteri russo ha anche avvertito che potrebbe prendere provvedimenti contro le agenzie di stampa tedesche a seguito di quanto successo. “L’adozione di misure reciproche contro i media tedeschi in Russia che, tra l’altro, hanno ripetutamente dimostrato di aver interferito negli affari interni del nostro Paese, sembra non solo appropriato ma necessario”, si legge in una nota. Il ministero ha proseguito affermando che imporre tali restrizioni è “l’unico modo possibile per concentrare l’attenzione dei nostri partner su un dialogo costruttivo e significativo su questa situazione inaccettabile”.
