La Malesia ha raggiunto un accordo di 3,9 miliardi di dollari con Goldman Sachs Group, una delle maggiori banche di investimento statunitensi, a causa delle perdite subite dal paese del sud-est asiatico a causa di uno scandalo sulla corruzione, riferisce Reuters.
In base all’accordo, annunciato venerdì scorso, Goldman Sachs dovrà effettuare un pagamento in contanti di $ 2,5 miliardi e offrire una garanzia per restituire $ 1,4 miliardi in attività legate alle obbligazioni della società di sviluppo strategico statale 1 Malesia Development Berhad (1 MB), indagata in almeno sei paesi per transazioni sospette, riciclaggio di denaro e frodi.
Nell’agosto dell’anno scorso, la giustizia malese aveva presentato accuse penali contro 17 dirigenti ed ex direttori di tre filiali Goldman Sachs in un caso di corruzione riguardante 1MDB.
In precedenza, a dicembre 2018, erano già state presentate accuse contro tre filiali e due ex dipendenti nello stesso caso.
Allo stesso tempo, Goldman Sachs è accusata di aver contribuito a raccogliere $ 6,5 miliardi attraverso offerte di obbligazioni per 1 MB.
L’istituto finanziario ha sempre negato le incriminazioni e denunciato che alcuni membri del governo del paese asiatico e la società stessa le avevano mentito sull’uso del ricavato delle transazioni.
