Google ha dichiarato mercoledì di aver presentato ricorso contro una multa da 500 milioni di euro (591 milioni di dollari) imposta dall’autorità antitrust francese a luglio per una controversia con i media locali sul pagamento riguardante i contenuti delle notizie.
La multa è arrivata a causa della crescente pressione internazionale sulle piattaforme online come Google, parte di Alphabet Inc, e Facebook a seguito delle entrate ottenute utilizzando le notizie dei media.
“Non siamo d’accordo con una serie di elementi legali e riteniamo che la multa sia sproporzionata rispetto ai nostri sforzi per raggiungere un accordo e rispettare la nuova legge”, ha affermato Sebastien Missoffe, capo di Google France.
“Continueremo a lavorare sodo per risolvere questo caso e trovare un accordo.”
L’antitrust francese ha imposto la sanzione a Google per non aver rispettato le regole e i dettami imposti per la conduzione dei colloqui e la creazione di offerte agli editori. In particolare, Google avrebbe dovuto dar luogo ai colloqui entro tre mesi dall’emissione delle regole temporaneamente stabilite dall’autorità antitrust.
L’appello di Google sarà giudicato dalla corte d’appello di Parigi, non è ancora nota la tempistica di durata del processo.
