Un incendio è scoppiato a bordo di un traghetto Euroferry Olympia battente bandiera italiana della Grimaldi Lines che collega la città di Igoumenitsa in Grecia e che arriva a Brindisi. A bordo della nave c’erano 237 passeggeri e 51 membri dell’equipaggio.
Secondo quanto riporta l’Ansa, alle 7 del mattino circa la nave è stata completamente evacuata con i mezzi di bordo e non risultano feriti.
L’incendio è avvenuto a circa 9 miglia dalla costa, in piena area Sar (ricerca e soccorso) greca. La guardia costiera greca, competente per i soccorsi, si è subito messa in contatto con il Comando generale delle capitanerie di porto a Roma, per coordinare l’intervento: la Guardia costiera italiana ha messo a disposizione mezzi navali e aerei, che però non sono stati necessari. Sul posto è intervenuta, oltre alle motovedette della guardia costiera greca, anche una unità della Guardia di finanza italiana che si trovava in quel tratto di mare.
