Il Dipartimento della Difesa degli Stati Uniti ha ordinato l’istituzione di un gruppo specializzato per il rilevamento di oggetti aerei non identificati che diventerà la prosecuzione della Task Force sui fenomeni aerei non identificati della Marina. Secondo l’annuncio del Pentagono, la nuova task force è stata nominata Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group (AOIMSG) e coordinerà gli sforzi del governo degli Stati Uniti “per rilevare, identificare e attribuire oggetti di interesse nello spazio aereo ad uso speciale (SUA), e per valutare e mitigare qualsiasi “minaccia” associata alla sicurezza del volo e alla sicurezza nazionale”.
La task force sarà composta da membri della comunità di intelligence, esperti del Dipartimento della Difesa e specialisti di altre agenzie governative. La decisione di riorganizzare l’unità che si occupa di fenomeni aerei non identificati (UAP) è in linea con le raccomandazioni fornite in un rapporto dell’Ufficio del direttore dell’intelligence nazionale (ODNI). Nelle prossime settimane il dipartimento fornirà una guida per AOIMSG che conterrà dettagli sulla gestione, la struttura organizzativa e le risorse della nuova unità. Il Pentagono ha sottolineato che prende molto seriamente le segnalazioni di incursioni “da qualsiasi oggetto aereo, identificato o non identificato” e conduce un’indagine su ciascun caso. Gli UAP rappresentano, secondo il memorandum sulla l’istituzione dell’AOIMSG, un potenziale rischio per gli aerei e per la sicurezza nazionale in senso lato.
